Discover Doikayt at Congregation Ner Shalom — your central hub for community aid, resources, and events. Guided by the spirit of tikkun olam (repairing the world), we connect our community with support services, volunteer opportunities, and meaningful gatherings to create a more just and compassionate world together.
What Doikayt means to us here at Congregation Ner Shalom:
Doikayt is the Yiddish word for "hereness," and it has been used by Jews for over a century to signify our right to exist fully wherever we may be. It symbolizes community, mutual aid, and connection, three Jewish values we strive for at Congregation Ner Shalom.
We have started this Doikayt Initiative as a tikkun olam project to bring forward community-building programming and resources. Rooted in the belief that our Jewishness is deeply tied to the places we inhabit, this initiative is a commitment to strengthening our local community, fostering support networks, and ensuring that no one is left behind. Whether through direct aid, educational events, or volunteer opportunities, Doikayt calls on us to be present, engaged, and accountable to one another.
At Ner Shalom, Doikayt means showing up for our neighbors, cultivating resilience, and creating a space where all can thrive. It is a reminder that our Jewish values are not abstract ideals but lived practices—here and now.
